Soft As A Baby’s Bottom

A newborn baby is a very soft creature. Their skin is smooth and extremely soft. It is also extremely sensitive. This is something to keep in mind when deciding what kind of bedding and blankets to get for your new bundle of joy.

As adults our skin is much less sensitive. Over the years we have become desensitized through constant exposure. We tend to like materials like silk or wool. These items can be rough on babies new sensitive skin. At first, a generic material would be good for your new baby. If your new baby is uncomfortable, how are you going to know? Yes your baby will cry because he or she is uncomfortable but it could be because he or she is too hot, or too cold, or maybe hungry or maybe having gas. There are many things that can make your baby uncomfortable. It shouldn’t be the crib bedding .

Another thing to keep in mind are allergies. Many people are allergic to wool. But if your baby itches, it doesn’t yet know to scratch. So your baby cries because he or she is uncomfortable. Again, are you going to know why your baby is crying? As your baby gets older, you’ll be able to know what some of the different cries mean. And of course eventually he or she will begin to make words and will be able to communicate. But the newborn can’t talk and their cry can mean just about anything. So the more problems you can eliminate in the beginning, the happier your baby will be.

When buying the bedding online, the description of the bedding should tell you what material the bedding is made of. If it does not, your should seriously consider not buying it, even if it really goes well with your nursery.

The material you choose is only one part of the solution. Another problem can be the laundry detergent you use. Often, people want the baby’s room to smell wonderful and they want the bedding to smell equally as wonderful. So they use detergents that have extra smells in it or softeners that will make the bedding smell better and feel softer. Since your newborn’s skin is very sensitive, laundry detergents and fabric softeners, which don’t bother you, can have an undesired effect on your baby. As your baby get’s older and his or her skin gets more desensitized, these detergents and softeners will tend to have less of an effect on them. Allergies can once again play a factor in this. Some people, even as adults, are allergic to the additives in detergents and softeners. As with the material of the bedding, when your newborn baby is allergic to additives in your laundry detergent or fabric softener, they are not going to be able to tell you, or even scratch. They will just cry.

So keep in mind when you are choosing your babies bedding and laundry detergent that your baby’s skin is very sensitive and you should be mindful of the material you have against his or her skin and what that material is being washed in. And if your baby is constantly unhappy, and you’ve tried everything you can think of, check the bedding.
